Who We Are

Our Mission Statement

Advancing co-operative values by putting people before profits.

Our Vision Statement

We are part of an international movement that is essential to building sustainable, co-operative economies through people-oriented partnerships in our member communities.

What is a Credit Union?

Credit Unions are member-owned, full service co-operative financial institutions.

How are we Different?

We are member-owned and are accountable to our members. After annual contributions to retained earnings have been made, Williams Lake and District Credit Union's profit are returned not to anonymous shareholders, but to Credit Union members and the Credit Union's local communities. We support our local communities through donations, sponsorships, bursaries and volunteer efforts.

Credit Unions are cooperatives, working for the good of all, and founded on the belief that everyone has the right to achieve financial well-being.

Williams Lake and District Credit Union has adopted the values and principles outlined in the Statement on the Co-operative Identity, which includes the seven cooperative principles, the foundation of cooperatives worldwide, listed below:

•    Voluntary and open membership
•    Democratic member control
•    Member economic participation
•    Autonomy and independence
•    Education, training, and information
•    Cooperation among cooperatives
•    Concern for community

Governance

The Credit Union is overseen by a Board of Directors elected by and from the membership. The Board of Williams Lake and District Credit Union is comprised of nine Directors elected for three year terms. Directors are members who reside in the various communities served by the Credit Union. The Board makes the leadership decisions required to maintain a successful operation, including the approval of long-term strategic plans. Directors undertake extensive personal development through the Credit Union Director Achievement program.
