In 1952 the Credit Union opened its doors in Williams Lake. A few people with little money, strong community spirit and a lot of vision pooled their resources and joined together to keep local money in the community. In 1977, Williams Lake and District Credit Union opened its branch in 100 Mile House.
In 1998 the Bella Coola Valley Credit Union was acquired by Williams Lake and District Credit Union. Having commenced operations in 1941, the Bella Coola Valley Branch continues to be the only financial institution located west of Williams Lake along Highway 20, providing important financial services access to area residents.
From a start with only 12 members, Williams Lake and District Credit Union has grown to three branches serving over eleven thousand members in its member communities. The spirit and values that led to the creation of a local financial institution continue to exist today.
